About Anita Hillsley
The roots of Hillsley Art began when I was growing up in Michigan. My passion for patterns and designs played out in drawing elaborate plants and flowers that my cousin and I lovingly referred to as "Moon Flowers".
I casually played with my techniques over the years as I pursued my love of teaching and education. Then, my life took an abrupt left turn with the passing of my long time partner and husband. As I began the bumpy journey through grief and the redesign of my life I clung to my art as my path through the storm. My life-long love of intricate patterns and designs led to my current art form and served as a gateway for the release of all the feelings and emotions that flooded my mind.
I designed a series of paintings representing my journey and then decided to customize them for a close friend who was going down a similar path. That's when I realized that my work could serve as a source of comfort and expression for others.
It has been a little over five years now since my life took that left turn and I am delighted to be able to offer some comfort and support for others as we all travel through the challenges and celebrations of life.
You will often see spider webs, pathways and doors in my pieces. Webs have always fascinated me: how they glisten in the sunlight, how they attract your attention and hide a very clever and hardworking creature. Doors and pathways hold such wonder… Where do they lead? What will I find if I follow the path and walk through the door? Who else has been there and what did they see? Ah... endless questions for the inquisitive mind.
If you are experiencing challenges (who isn't???) or know someone who is, take a look at the paintings shown in the catalog and find one that speaks to you. It can serve as a reminder of how far you have come or an inspiration reminding you of where you can go!
